Most of the world’s population lacks access to safely managed drinking water services. For the past 3 years, the PKA Foundation has been at the forefront, combating waterborne diseases, mitigating the impacts of droughts, and preventing family migrations. Our initiatives transcend beyond water provision; they encompass sanitation and community education.

Our Work In Ghana

Ghana grapples with a dire sanitation situation, where only 25% have access to basic services. PKA Foundation has significantly improved sanitation in Ghana. Through our active involvement in the Ghana Clean Water Project, the percentage of people with access to clean water has improved. In Ghana, where sanitation challenges have persisted, PKA Foundation’s interventions have not only improved access to clean water but also sparked economic progress, shared or public facilities are being replaced with safer alternatives. The implementation of water infrastructure has created employment opportunities, contributing to the overall development of local communities.

Community-Based Projects in Household Sanitation:

We have been engaging in hundreds of transformative community-based projects for household sanitation to uplift communities in Ghana. With a focus on residents, our team has led the construction of sanitation facilities, conducted extensive education on hygiene practices, and actively promoted advanced waste management strategies. This initiative has left an indelible mark, significantly impacting over 5000 households. The ripple effect is unmistakable—improved sanitation, a sharp reduction in waterborne diseases, and an overall elevation of community well-being.

School Sanitation and Child-to-Child Health Education:

Our relentless focus on school sanitation and child-to-child health education is a highly focused part of sustainable development. Through strategic collaborations with schools, we have not only promoted comprehensive hygiene education but have also overseen the construction of modern sanitary facilities. In the past three years, PKA has been a driving force, positively influencing the lives of 10 thousand students. This influence doesn’t stop at the school gates; it is reflected through every child, extending health awareness and hygiene practices to their families and communities.

Water Reticulation and Solar-Powered Water Pumping:

The implementation of water reticulation systems and the installation of more than 50 solar-powered water pumps stand as a testament to our dedication to addressing water access challenges in Ghana. In collaboration with local governments, our strategic plan aims to establish foolproof water distribution systems, removing the burdens of water collection and ensuring good water quality. Already, we have made a substantial impact, providing sustainable water solutions to numerous communities, marking a pivotal step toward lasting change.

Rainwater Harvesting and Government-Community Partnerships:

Promoting rainwater harvesting and nurturing government-community partnerships for water sustainability in Ghana is at the core of our mission. Facilitating the construction of rainwater harvesting systems, we ensure communities have reliable access to water even during dry periods. We are working towards a collaboration with the government which will amplify the impact and scalability of these projects. In doing so, we contribute significantly to water resilience, fostering a sense of community ownership and responsibility that echoes far beyond the life of our initiatives.
